Fijian documents for the UAE

Fiji certificate attestation for the UAE

A Fijian apostille is only the first stamp for the UAE. After it, a UAE mission and MOFA must attest the document. The UAE covers Fiji through a non-resident ambassador while its first embassy in Suva is being set up.

Fees and steps checked on

Fiji certificate attestation lets a Fijian birth certificate, marriage certificate, degree or adoption paper be used in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or the other emirates. Fiji has been part of the Apostille Convention since 1970, so the first stamp is an apostille from the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The UAE does not accept an apostille alone, so a UAE mission step and MOFA attestation follow.

A UAE embassy on the way

Fiji is in a period of change on the UAE side. The UAE has covered Fiji through a non-resident ambassador: Rashed Matar Alsiri Alqemzi presented credentials to the President of Fiji in September 2022, having been appointed UAE ambassador to New Zealand in 2020. In March 2026 the Fijian Cabinet endorsed a resident UAE embassy in Suva, and in April 2026 the Fijian foreign ministry said the first UAE mission in Suva was expected later that year. We have not confirmed that it has opened or started attestation. Until it does, the UAE stamp for your document is confirmed per file.

Route for Fijian documents

  1. Original from the issuing office. Births, Deaths and Marriages registry, university, court.
  2. Notarisation, if needed. Some private documents need a notary first.
  3. Apostille, Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Suva. Confirms the official's signature and seal.
  4. UAE mission step. Currently confirmed per file, as explained above.
  5. MOFA in the UAE. The MOFA fee is included in our total.

Apostille is not the finish line

A paper apostilled earlier for Australia or New Zealand can look finished. For the UAE they are not, because the UAE is outside the convention. Our page on attestation vs apostille explains the difference in plain words.

Typical Fijian documents

Document UAE use
Birth certificate Child residence visa, school
Marriage certificate Spouse visa, marriage certificate attestation
Degree or diploma Work permit, professional licence
Adoption papers Child visa, guardianship

Fiji papers issued in New Zealand

If your degree or certificate was issued in New Zealand rather than Fiji, it follows the New Zealand chain instead, covered on New Zealand certificate attestation. The issuing country always decides the route.

Language

Fijian public documents are generally issued in English, which MOFA accepts. Church or community papers in iTaukei or Hindi need a legally certified translation.

From the UAE

The apostille requires the original in Suva, sent by courier or delivered by a relative. Everything on the UAE side can be done without you; MOFA allows anyone to apply on your behalf.

Watch for

  • Treating the apostille as the final step.
  • A laminated certificate, which MOFA will not attest.
  • Old registry extracts. A fresh certified copy from the registry is easier for every office.
  • Paying for a UAE courier before the current UAE step for Fiji is confirmed. Send a copy first.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Is a Fijian apostille accepted in Dubai?

Not on its own. Fiji is in the Apostille Convention but the UAE is not, so the apostilled document still needs the UAE mission step and MOFA.

How much does Fiji certificate attestation cost?

Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Is there a UAE embassy in Fiji?

Not yet confirmed as open. Fiji's Cabinet endorsed a resident UAE embassy in Suva in March 2026, and the Fijian foreign ministry said in April 2026 it was expected later in the year. Until then the UAE has a non-resident ambassador to Fiji.

Who issues apostilles in Fiji?

The Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Suva, according to Dutch and US government guidance on Fijian documents.

Do Fijian documents need translation?

Documents in English do not need one for MOFA. Papers written in Fijian or Hindi need a legally certified translation.

Can I arrange this from the UAE?

Yes. The apostille step needs the original in Suva, sent by courier or taken by a relative, and MOFA allows anyone to apply on your behalf.
