The 5 attestation steps
Every US document for the UAE goes through these departments, in this order:
- Notary, USA. A US notary certifies the copy, where the document needs it.
- Secretary of State, USA. The state where the document was issued or notarised certifies it.
- US Department of State. The Office of Authentications in Washington authenticates the state certificate.
- UAE Embassy in Washington DC. The embassy adds its attestation.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE. The final MOFA attestation that makes the document valid in the UAE.

- We complete the UAE Embassy and MOFA step. The embassy works through VFS Global and adds its stamp and MOFA together digitally, typically in 2 to 3 working days.

After the US attestation
Your attested document carries a reference number on its last page. Your HR team can check it at verify.mofa.gov.ae. A US degree used for the golden visa or a professional licence often needs recognition next: see equivalency certificate in the UAE. A WES evaluation is a different thing, and the UAE does not accept it in place of these stamps.
What usually delays a file
- Bundled apostilles. Each document needs its own certificate.
- Skipping the State Department. A state certificate alone is not enough for the UAE.
- Wrong state. It must be the state where the document was issued or notarised.
- Unaccredited or online-only degrees. Refused at the embassy step.
- Blurry or cropped scans. Send the full page in colour, with every stamp and signature readable.
