A power of attorney in Dubai is signed before the Dubai Courts notary or a licensed private notary, in person or remotely. If the POA will be used in another country, it then needs MOFA attestation and, where the destination requires it, that country's embassy in the UAE. A POA made abroad for use in Dubai follows a different route, explained on power of attorney attestation.

Price: MOFA attestation of a UAE-issued personal document from AED 250 plus VAT and commercial document from AED 2,600 plus VAT, all official fees included, usually 2 to 3 working days. Drafting, translation and the notary booking are quoted after you share the details on WhatsApp, with the total price before any work starts. See attestation fees.

Which power of attorney do you need?

Type What it covers Typical use
General POA Broad authority over your affairs Managing assets while you are away for a long time
Special POA Named acts only Selling or renting a property, a bank matter, a court case, a car transfer
Company POA Authority given by a company to a manager or representative Signing for the company, government transactions

Banks, land departments and courts usually prefer a special power of attorney with precise wording: property address, account number or case number. Vague wording is the main reason a POA is refused at the receiving office.

Power of attorney fees in Dubai

Every official fee and the courier are included in the total price you get before any work starts.

A POA given by a company is usually handled as a commercial document at MOFA, which is why the commercial price is higher.

Making a power of attorney in Dubai: step by step

  1. Agree the wording. Who gives the power (principal), who receives it (attorney), exactly what the attorney may do and for how long.
  2. Translate if needed. An English-only draft may need an Arabic or bilingual version by an MOJ-licensed translator. See legal translation in Dubai.
  3. Book the notary. Dubai Courts, a private notary or remote e-notary. See notary public in Dubai.
  4. Sign before the notary with your original Emirates ID or passport. The attorney does not always need to attend; the principal does.
  5. Pay the official fee and receive the notarised POA.
  6. Attest for use abroad if the POA is going to another country: MOFA attestation online, then the destination embassy in the UAE.

Power of attorney online

Dubai Courts runs a remote notarisation service: you appear by video and sign electronically. For the emirates served by the federal courts, the Ministry of Justice e-notary works through UAE PASS. Remote notarisation suits residents who are travelling and people abroad with a UAE matter, but some receiving offices still ask for a wet-ink original, so check before you choose.

Using a Dubai POA abroad

The UAE is not in the Apostille Convention, so a Dubai POA cannot be apostilled. The route is legalisation:

  1. Notarised in Dubai
  2. MOFA attestation, applied for online
  3. Embassy or consulate of the destination country in the UAE, if required
  4. Translation into the destination language, if the receiving office asks for it

Full details for all outgoing papers are on UAE documents for use abroad.

POA made abroad for use in Dubai

If you sign abroad, the POA is notarised in that country, then follows the home chain, the UAE embassy and MOFA. A UK power of attorney, for example, goes through a UK notary, the FCDO, the UAE Embassy London and MOFA. See UK power of attorney attestation. With us, a UK board resolution or power of attorney starts from AED 5,200 plus VAT, all official fees included, and takes about 24 working days.

Documents you need

  • Original Emirates ID or passport of the principal
  • Passport or Emirates ID copy of the attorney
  • The draft POA, Arabic or bilingual
  • Supporting documents: title deed, trade licence, car registration or case details
  • For a company POA: trade licence, memorandum of association and proof of the signatory's authority

If every party holds an Emirates ID, the POA may not need a visit at all: see how to make a power of attorney online in Dubai.

How we help

We check the wording against what the receiving office needs, arrange the legal translation, book the notary and, if the POA is going abroad, file the MOFA attestation and the embassy step. The notary and the authorities issue the documents; we prepare, book and follow up so the POA is accepted the first time.

Questions people ask

How much does a power of attorney cost in Dubai?

Send a photo on WhatsApp and you get one total price, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Can I make a power of attorney online in Dubai?

Yes, in many cases. Dubai Courts offers remote notarisation with a virtual appearance and electronic signature, and the Ministry of Justice runs an e-notary system through UAE PASS for emirates served by the federal courts.

What is the difference between a general and a special power of attorney?

A general power of attorney gives broad authority over your affairs. A special power of attorney is limited to named acts, such as selling one property, handling one bank account or representing you in one case. Receiving offices often prefer a special POA.

Can I use a Dubai power of attorney in another country?

Yes, after attestation. The notarised POA is attested by MOFA and then, if the destination country requires it, by that country's embassy or consulate in the UAE. The UAE does not issue apostilles.

Do I need to be in Dubai to give a power of attorney?

No. If you are abroad you can often sign remotely before a Dubai notary, or sign before a notary in your country and have the POA attested there and at the UAE embassy for use in Dubai.

Does a power of attorney need to be in Arabic?

Notarised documents in the UAE are commonly prepared in Arabic or bilingual Arabic and English. An English-only draft may need a legal translation by a translator licensed by the Ministry of Justice.

Does the attorney have to come to the notary?

The principal must attend and sign with an original Emirates ID or passport. The attorney does not always need to attend.

How can I check the MOFA attestation on my POA?

Enter the reference number and issue date printed on the attestation at verify.mofa.gov.ae to confirm MOFA issued it.
