Indian Embassy POA attestation is how an Indian citizen in the UAE makes a power of attorney (POA) for use in India. You sign it in person before a consular officer of the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General of India in Dubai.
Price: Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Who needs an Indian Embassy POA attestation?
Non-resident Indians in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates use a POA so that a parent, sibling or lawyer in India can act for them. Common reasons:
- selling, buying or letting a flat or land in India
- property registration, mutation or tax matters
- bank, pension and investment paperwork
- court cases and family settlements
If the POA is going to be used in India, the Indian mission route on this page is the one to use. If it is going to be used in the UAE, read power of attorney attestation instead.
Where is the POA submitted?
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai both attest powers of attorney executed by Indian citizens in India and the UAE. Since 22 July 2026, Indian passport, visa and attestation applications in the UAE are handled by 16 Indian Consular Application Centres run by Alhind Tours and Travels. Appointments are booked online at consularsevainuae.com, and the service is no longer taken at the Dubai consulate's own premises.
The embassy page states the service is rendered the same day. The outsourced centre charges its own service fee on top of the government fee.
Documents you need
From the Embassy of India's attestation guidelines for a sworn affidavit or power of attorney:
- The original POA with a duplicate copy, unsigned, to be signed in the presence of the consular officer.
- Your original passport and a photocopy of the first five pages and the page with your current valid UAE residence visa.
- Personal presence of the executant with the original passport. This is compulsory.
- A recent passport size photograph of the executant, and of the attorney if present, fixed on top of the front page of the POA.
Do not sign the POA at home before the appointment. The officer must see you sign it.
Fees at the Indian mission
The mission charges a different fee for a property POA than for other civil documents, so the fee depends on the content of your POA. Every official fee and the courier are included in the total price you get before any work starts.
Step by step
- Draft the POA with the full names exactly as in the passports, the property or account details and the specific acts allowed.
- Book an appointment at an Indian Consular Application Centre through consularsevainuae.com.
- Attend in person with the unsigned original and duplicate, passport, copies and photo. Sign before the consular officer.
- Send the original to India by courier to your attorney.
- Stamp it in India. Under section 18 of the Indian Stamp Act, an instrument executed only outside India that is chargeable with duty may be stamped within three months after it is first received in India. States have their own stamp laws and rates. A property POA may also need registration, so ask your lawyer there before you sign.
When does a POA need UAE attestation instead?
The direction decides the route.
- A POA made in India for use in the UAE, for example to let someone in Dubai sell your car or handle a rental case, does not go to the Indian Embassy. It is signed before a notary in India, attested by the Ministry of External Affairs, then by the UAE Embassy in New Delhi on MOFA's digital route, which adds the MOFA attestation in the same step. A POA with commercial content is charged as a commercial document.
- A POA made at a Dubai notary for use in the UAE stays inside the UAE system. See power of attorney in Dubai and notary public in Dubai.
For the full India chain for certificates, see India certificate attestation. Affidavits for India follow the same embassy rules as POAs; see affidavit attestation.
Common problems and how to avoid them
- Signed in advance. The officer must witness the signature, so leave it blank.
- Missing visa page copy. Bring copies of the first five passport pages and the residence visa page.
- No photograph on the front page of the POA.
- Stamp duty forgotten. The three-month window starts when the document reaches India.
How we help
We are a private document service in Dubai, not the Indian Embassy, the Consulate or the outsourced centre. Send us your draft POA or a short note of what your attorney must do. On WhatsApp we check the wording, type a clean original and duplicate, and send you the list for the appointment, with the total price before any work starts.
