Salary certificate attestation makes your employer's statement of pay legally acceptable to a bank, consulate, court or sponsor that is not in the place where it was issued. For a UAE salary certificate going abroad, the usual route is your employer's letter, then the chamber of commerce, then MOFA attestation, then the destination country's embassy in the UAE where required. A salary letter from abroad for use in the UAE goes the other way: notary, foreign ministry, UAE embassy, MOFA.
Price: a UAE salary certificate is quoted after you send a copy, because the chamber step differs by emirate; when it is processed as a personal document, the MOFA-only part starts from AED 250 plus VAT. Salary letters from abroad are quoted the same way. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Why salary certificates get attested
- Visas for other countries. Consulates often want proof that a UAE resident has a steady income to return to.
- Bank loans and mortgages abroad. A bank in your home country may lend against UAE income only with an attested salary letter.
- Family sponsorship abroad. Some countries ask a sponsor to prove income before issuing a family visa.
- Proof of income in the UAE. For a Dubai family residence visa, GDRFA lists a salary certificate for government, semi-government and free zone employees, alongside the employment contract. A salary letter from an employer abroad, used in a UAE file, must be attested abroad first.
UAE salary certificate: step by step
- Employer letter. On company letterhead, signed by an authorised signatory and stamped, stating your name as in the passport, job title, start date and monthly salary with its breakdown.
- Chamber of commerce. The chamber of the emirate where the company is registered attests the signatory's signature.
- MOFA. Applied for online with UAE PASS and a courier, or by us on your behalf.
- Destination embassy in the UAE, if the receiving country requires its own stamp. See UAE documents for use abroad.
Chamber rules in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
| Dubai Chambers | Abu Dhabi Chamber | |
|---|---|---|
| Time | About 2 hours | Listed as 12 minutes |
| Who qualifies | Member companies, registered signatories | Member companies, registered signatories |
| Salary letter condition | Member signature required | Certified only after a statement from the Ministry of Labour |
| Language | Confirmed with the letter | Arabic or English; others need a legal translator |
Companies in Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates use their own chamber. Free zone companies that are not chamber members may need a different signature route, which we confirm with the letter in hand. More on this step: chamber of commerce attestation.
Salary certificate vs experience certificate
A salary certificate is about now: what you earn this month. An experience certificate is about the past: where you worked and for how long. The routes look similar, but salary letters age quickly, and a bank or consulate may refuse one that is a few months old. Ask your employer for a fresh letter close to the date you need it. For past jobs, see experience certificate attestation.
For Indian residents in Abu Dhabi
Some Indian authorities and banks ask for a salary letter attested by an Indian mission in the UAE. The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi lists sponsorship certificates among the civil documents it attests, and since July 2026 its attestation applications go through consular application centres run by Alhind. We confirm whether the mission will accept your specific letter before you book.
Common problems
- Letter without a stamp or with an unregistered signatory. The chamber cannot attest it.
- Old salary letter. Re-issue it before starting, not after.
- Salary figures that do not match the contract. Receiving authorities compare them.
- Letter in a third language. Abu Dhabi Chamber accepts Arabic and English only.
