How New Zealand attestation works, step by step
- Notary and education check, where needed. Copies and powers of attorney are certified by a New Zealand notary. Educational documents go through the education authority first.
- New Zealand authentication, Category A. The government authentication service authenticates the document for the UAE: completed within 15 working days. An urgent service within 5 working days is available where the document is eligible.
- UAE embassy in Wellington. The authenticated document is attested by the UAE embassy, booked through the MOFA portal and VFS Global, MOFA's attestation service provider.
- MOFA. The document receives MOFA attestation and is ready for your visa, job or school file in the UAE.

Already in the UAE?
Hand over the original in Dubai. It is couriered to New Zealand, authenticated, attested by the UAE embassy, then by MOFA, and returned. You do not need to be in New Zealand or apply online there yourself.

Common problems with New Zealand documents
- Ordering the apostille. It is cheaper, so people pick it by mistake. The UAE needs the Category A authentication.
- Skipping the education check for a degree. The file can be refused further down the chain.
- Laminated or scanned documents. MOFA needs the physical, unlaminated original.
- Short deadlines. Authentication alone can take up to 15 working days. Ask about the urgent service early if your visa date is close.
