Indian marriage certificate attestation makes a marriage registered in India valid in the UAE, most often so a husband or wife can sponsor a spouse for a residence visa. The route is: Home Department of the state where the marriage was registered, MEA attestation, then the UAE Embassy in New Delhi, which adds MOFA attestation in the same digital step. You can be in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah while it is done.
Price: India is quoted per document. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Why the UAE asks for it
The Dubai family residence visa asks for an attested or certified marriage contract when a resident sponsors a spouse. When you later sponsor children, their visas rest on attested birth certificates too, so it often makes sense to send both together. See Indian birth certificate attestation. See attestation for a family visa.
Step by step for an Indian marriage certificate
- Get the right certificate. Use the marriage certificate issued by the state registrar, not only a religious certificate.
- State Home Department. The Home Department (General Administration) of the state where the marriage was registered authenticates the registrar's signature. This is the stamp some people call HRD, but for a marriage certificate the office is the Home Department, not education.
- MEA attestation. MEA attests the Home Department signature. Ask for attestation, not an MEA apostille.
- UAE Embassy New Delhi and MOFA. The application is made on the UAE MOFA website with UAE PASS. The original is collected in India, attested digitally by both offices, and returned to you by courier. The marriage certificate must be the original.
Documents you need
- The original marriage certificate from the state registrar.
- Passport copies of husband and wife.
- A translation if the certificate has no English. See legal translation in Dubai.
Fees
| Step | Who stamps it | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Home Department | State government | varies by state |
| MEA | Ministry of External Affairs | no published time |
| UAE Embassy and MOFA | Digital, both together | about 2 to 3 working days |
Every official fee and the courier are included in the total price you get before any work starts.
How long it takes
The state Home Department and MEA steps decide most of the timing. Each state runs its own queue and MEA publishes no fixed processing time, so plan from the date your visa application is due, not from the date you send the certificate. The last step is quicker: the UAE Embassy in New Delhi and MOFA usually finish in about 2 to 3 working days after the courier collects the original, and the courier returns it within 24 to 48 hours of release.
If the sponsorship has a deadline, tell us on the first message. We tell you honestly whether the dates work before you pay.
The Abu Dhabi option
If the certificate already carries the state Home Department and MEA stamps, the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate in Dubai can attest it. The Indian Embassy has said UAE MOFA accepts this in place of the UAE mission step in India for marriage certificates. Booking is at consularsevainuae.com. We confirm which route suits your file before you pay.
Common problems
- Marriage registered in one state, couple living in another. The Home Department stamp must come from the state of registration.
- Names that differ from the passports. Fix the spelling or prepare an affidavit before the chain starts.
- Laminated or damaged certificate. Order a fresh certified copy from the registrar.
