Uganda certificate attestation for the UAE

Uganda certificate attestation is the chain that lets a Ugandan degree, school certificate, marriage certificate or company document be used in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates. Personal documents pass through the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), education documents through the university and the Ministry of Education and Sports, and both then go to Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Embassy in Kampala. The embassy's digital route includes MOFA attestation.

Two Ugandan routes

The UAE Embassy in Kampala describes separate first steps for personal and academic papers.

Civil and personal documents (marriage, birth, death certificates, affidavits):

1. URSB. The Uganda Registration Services Bureau authenticates the document.
2. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kampala. Attestation of the URSB stamp.
3. UAE Embassy in Kampala. With identification copies of the people named in the document.

Academic documents (degrees, diplomas, transcripts):

1. Awarding university or institution. Authenticates the copy.
2. Ministry of Education and Sports. Attests the university stamp.
3. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kampala. Attests the education ministry stamp.
4. UAE Embassy in Kampala. With the original and a copy of the owner's ID.

Digital attestation in Kampala

The embassy now offers the UAE digital attestation service. You apply on the UAE MOFA website with UAE PASS, choose Uganda as the country of issue and pay. An approved provider collects the original, and the attested document arrives by email, with most requests done in about 2 to 3 business days. The original physical document is still required. The result can be checked at verify.mofa.gov.ae.

Only Ugandan documents in Kampala

The Kampala embassy attests documents issued in Uganda. If you studied in Kenya, India or the UK and later lived in Uganda, that degree goes through the UAE embassy in the country that issued it. This catches many people who hold degrees from neighbouring countries.

Already in Dubai?

You do not need to fly to Entebbe. The original travels by courier or with a relative, goes through URSB or the education ministry and the foreign ministry, then the embassy's digital step. MOFA lets anyone apply on your behalf, and the digital result reaches your email. For a skilled job, ask your employer if an equivalency certificate is also required.

What the Kampala embassy asks you to send

For a personal document, the embassy wants identification copies of every person named in it. For a marriage certificate that means both spouses, which is easy to forget when one spouse is in Dubai and the other in Kampala. For an academic document, it wants the original, the authenticated copy and a copy of the owner's ID. Get these ready before the courier collects the file, because a missing ID copy sends the whole application back.

Families in the UAE often hold papers from more than one country. If some of yours come from Kenya, use the route on Kenya certificate attestation for those.

Problems we see with Ugandan files

• Copies not authenticated by the university. The education ministry will not attest a plain photocopy.
• Missing ID copies. Personal documents need ID copies of the people named, for example both spouses on a marriage certificate.
• Name order. Ugandan names often appear in a different order on certificates and passports. Send a passport copy.
• Lamination. Refused by the UAE side.
