Austrian documents for the UAE

Austria certificate attestation for the UAE

An Austrian document is certified by the authority above the issuer, then by the Austrian foreign ministry (BMEIA), and then attested digitally by the UAE Embassy in Vienna, a result that already carries the UAE MOFA attestation.

Austria certificate attestation makes an Austrian diploma, birth or marriage certificate, notarial deed or company document valid for a UAE visa, job or licence. The chain has three Austrian links before the UAE step: the issuing body, an intermediate certification by the authority above it, and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA). The UAE Embassy in Vienna then attests the document digitally, and that result already includes MOFA attestation.

Price: There is no fixed price for Austria. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. Our attestation fees page explains what the total covers.

We are a private document service based in Bur Dubai. We are not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. We prepare your file, arrange each step and tell you where it is. Document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai is free.

Apostille or legalisation

Austria is in the Hague Apostille Convention, so Austrian offices are used to issuing apostilles. The UAE is not a member, and an apostille alone is not accepted for UAE use. The document needs full legalisation instead, ending with the BMEIA and the UAE Embassy in Vienna.

The Austrian chain

Austria uses an intermediate certification, called Zwischenbeglaubigung. The authority above the one that signed your document confirms the signature first. Court and notarial documents are certified by the president of the competent regional court. University diplomas go through the education ministry responsible for higher education. The BMEIA's office for consular certifications in Vienna then adds the final Austrian stamp. Which office applies depends on your exact document, and we confirm it from a copy before anything is sent.

Step by step

  1. Original document. Birth, marriage and death certificates must be originals. Other documents can be originals or certified true copies from the issuing body.
  2. Intermediate certification. By the authority above the issuer, or the regional court president for notarial and court papers.
  3. BMEIA in Vienna. The Austrian foreign ministry legalises the signature.
  4. MOFA portal. We apply with UAE PASS, select Austria as the country of issue and pay the UAE fees online.
  5. UAE Embassy in Vienna. The original is handed in on a weekday morning.
  6. Digital result. An email arrives with the document attested by the embassy and UAE MOFA, and the original is collected from the embassy.

The embassy states that attestation takes 2 to 3 working days.

What the Vienna embassy will not accept

  • Documents issued outside Austria, Slovakia or Slovenia, which belong to the UAE mission in the issuing country
  • Heat laminated documents
  • Several documents bound into one bundle
  • Commercial invoices and certificates of origin, which use MOFA's eDAS system

Language and names

Most Austrian documents are in German. MOFA accepts Arabic or English, or a legally certified translation. We plan the translation before the Austrian steps so nothing has to be redone. Names with umlauts, such as "Müller", are often written "Mueller" in a passport. Send the passport copy with the document so every translation matches it. If a UAE court wants Arabic, a legal translation in Dubai can be added at the end.

A spouse or child with documents from Germany or Switzerland needs that country's own chain: see Germany certificate attestation and Switzerland certificate attestation.

If you are already in the UAE

You do not need to fly to Vienna. The MOFA application can be made from Dubai and anyone may apply on your behalf. The original still has to reach the Austrian offices and the embassy, so we arrange that or a relative in Austria does it. We collect your copies in Dubai for free and deliver the attested original back to your door.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Is an Austrian apostille valid in the UAE?

Not on its own. Austria is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, but the UAE is not. An Austrian document needs legalisation by the BMEIA and then attestation by the UAE Embassy in Vienna.

Where are Austrian documents attested for the UAE?

At the UAE Embassy in Vienna, after the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA). The application is made online on the MOFA portal and the original is handed in at the embassy.

How much does Austria certificate attestation cost?

There is no fixed price for Austria. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Do I still need MOFA in Dubai after Vienna?

Normally no. The Vienna embassy's digital attestation is certified by the embassy and UAE MOFA together. You can check it on the MOFA verification site with its reference number.

Does my German language diploma need translating?

Usually yes. MOFA accepts Arabic or English, or a legally certified translation. We plan the translation so it fits the Austrian certification chain.

How long does the Vienna embassy step take?

The UAE Embassy in Vienna says attestation takes 2 to 3 working days once the original is handed in. The Austrian steps come first and are timed in your quote.

Are you the UAE embassy or MOFA?

No. We are a private document service in Dubai. We prepare the file, arrange the Austrian and UAE steps and keep you updated, but the stamps are issued by the authorities.
