Chinese birth certificate attestation is what Chinese parents in the UAE need to sponsor a child born in mainland China for a residence visa, and what schools ask for when the child enrols. China works differently from most countries: the document that goes abroad is usually a birth notarial certificate issued by a Chinese notary office, not a civil registry certificate. That notarial certificate is authenticated by the Chinese foreign affairs authority, attested by the UAE embassy or a UAE consulate in China, and finished with MOFA attestation in the UAE.
Price: There is no fixed price for China. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.
We are a private document service, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. Free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai is included.
Where the UAE asks for it
- Child residence visa. The parent's family visa file needs an attested birth certificate for a child born outside the UAE. See family visa services in Dubai.
- School admission. Many UAE schools ask for an attested birth certificate at registration. See attestation for school admission.
- Adults. A Chinese adult's own birth record is sometimes asked for in UAE personal status or name change matters.
Which Chinese document proves the birth
Children born in China from 1996 onward usually have a Medical Certificate of Birth issued by the hospital. Births are also recorded in the household register (hukou). Neither is normally sent abroad as it is. A notary office issues a birth notarial certificate based on them. There are two common formats: one with a certified copy of the medical birth certificate, and one where the notary sets out the key facts. Which format your UAE file needs, and which evidence the notary office will accept, is confirmed from your copy.
The Chinese birth certificate chain
- Gather the source records. The Medical Certificate of Birth, the hukou page and the parents' IDs or passports.
- Birth notarial certificate. A notary office linked to the hukou or place of birth issues the certificate, with an English translation bound in.
- Chinese foreign affairs authentication. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an authorised local foreign affairs office authenticates it, as consular authentication, not an apostille.
- UAE embassy or consulate in China. The UAE mission attests the foreign affairs stamp.
- MOFA in the UAE. The final stamp for the visa and school systems.
Documents you need
- A photo of the Medical Certificate of Birth, or the hukou page for older births.
- The child's passport copy and both parents' passport copies.
- A signed power of attorney if a relative in China applies at the notary office.
- The parents' marriage certificate, if the visa sponsor must show the family link. See Chinese marriage certificate attestation.
Common problems with Chinese birth records
- Sending the hospital certificate alone. Parents courier the medical birth certificate and expect it to be attested. It needs to become a notarial certificate first.
- Child's name differs from the passport. The pinyin in the notarial translation must match the child's passport exactly, including given names written as one word or two.
- Apostille chosen by default. Since November 2023 some offices offer an apostille first. For the UAE, the file must go through consular authentication and the UAE mission.
Timing
The notary office, the foreign affairs step and the UAE mission set most of the time, and the timeline comes with your quote. Once the certificate is in the UAE, MOFA usually takes 1 to 3 business days. If a visa deadline is close, say so in your first message.
Other Chinese documents
The sponsoring parent often needs a Chinese degree attested for the work visa as well. The full list of routes is on China certificate attestation, and the rules for every country are on birth certificate attestation.
