Fees and steps checked on
Chinese marriage certificate attestation is the step most Chinese families in the UAE meet first, because a resident cannot sponsor a husband or wife without an attested marriage certificate. In China a marriage is registered at a civil affairs marriage registration office, and each spouse gets a red booklet. For the UAE, a Chinese notary office turns that record into a marriage notarial certificate. It is then authenticated by the Chinese foreign affairs authority, attested by the UAE embassy or a UAE consulate in China, and finished with MOFA attestation in the UAE.
Price: There is no fixed price for China. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.
We are a private document service, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. We collect and return documents with free pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai.
Why the UAE asks for it
- Spouse residence visa. The family visa file asks for an attested marriage certificate to prove the link between sponsor and spouse. See family visa services in Dubai.
- Children's visas. Child visas rest on the parents' marriage and the child's birth record, so families usually attest both. See Chinese birth certificate attestation.
- Name change and banking. A wife who uses her husband's surname abroad may need the attested marriage certificate to explain the difference between documents.
A civil record, not a religious one
Some countries issue both a religious and a civil marriage certificate, and the UAE has to decide which counts. China does not. The civil registration at the marriage registration office is the marriage record. A wedding ceremony, banquet or temple blessing has no certificate that can be attested. If your marriage was never registered, registration is the first step, and nothing can be attested before it.
The Chinese marriage certificate chain
- Check the booklet. Send photos of the pages with names, dates, the registration office seal and the photo of the couple.
- Marriage notarial certificate. A notary office, usually linked to a spouse's hukou or the place of registration, issues the notarial certificate with an English translation.
- Chinese foreign affairs authentication. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an authorised local foreign affairs office authenticates it. Ask for consular authentication, not an apostille.
- UAE embassy or consulate in China. The UAE mission attests the foreign affairs stamp.
- MOFA in the UAE. The final stamp that the immigration system checks.
Documents you need
- The marriage booklet of at least one spouse, or a replacement or record certificate if it was lost.
- Passport copies of both spouses, and ID cards for Chinese citizens.
- A power of attorney if a relative in China applies at the notary office.
- Any earlier divorce certificate, if one of you was married before.
Common problems with Chinese marriage certificates
- Booklet sent instead of a notarial certificate. The original booklet travels to the UAE and gets refused, because it was never notarised and authenticated in China.
- Names in pinyin do not match passports. Foreign spouses' names may be written in Chinese characters in the booklet. The translation must give the exact passport spelling for both spouses.
- Apostille instead of consular authentication. After November 2023 some files are processed for an apostille by default. That stamp does not lead to the UAE mission step.
Timing
The notary office, the foreign affairs step and the UAE mission set most of the time. Your timeline is confirmed with your quote. Once the certificate reaches the UAE, MOFA usually takes 1 to 3 business days. If a visa deadline is near, tell us in your first message.
Other Chinese documents
The sponsoring spouse may also need a Chinese degree attested for the work visa. The full route for every document is on China certificate attestation, and rules for marriages from any country are on marriage certificate attestation.
