Fees and steps checked on
Croatia certificate attestation is the chain that makes a Croatian diploma, birth or marriage certificate, or notarial deed valid in the UAE. It is less direct than most EU routes because the UAE does not keep a resident embassy in Zagreb. The Croatian side uses full legalisation through the courts and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, then a UAE mission accredited to Croatia, then MOFA attestation.
Price: Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees for what is included.
Why Croatia needs extra care
The UAE's ambassador to Croatia is non-resident. He presented his credentials to the Croatian president in Zagreb in April 2024, and public profiles list him as the UAE ambassador to Germany as well. No MOFA page we have read says which UAE mission currently attests Croatian documents, so we do not guess. When you send a copy, we confirm the live route before any document leaves your hands.
Croatia, for its part, has said it intends to open an embassy in the UAE. That would help UAE documents going to Croatia, but it does not replace the UAE mission step for Croatian documents coming here.
Full legalisation in Croatia
Croatia uses two systems. For Hague countries a single apostille is enough. For a country outside the Convention, such as the UAE, Croatia applies full legalisation, a chain of separate stamps in which the foreign ministry takes part.
- Issuing body. A registry office, university or notary issues or signs the document.
- Municipal court. The court for that area authenticates the signature. The Ministry of Justice can do this for documents from any court area.
- Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. The ministry legalises the court's signature. Bring the original, an unauthenticated copy and identification.
- UAE mission accredited to Croatia. Confirmed for your file at the time of applying.
- MOFA in the UAE. Included where the mission issues a digital attestation; otherwise a separate final step.
Each authority in the chain has to be visited in turn, which is why most people living abroad hand the job to someone in Croatia.
Croatian documents we see most
| Document | Starts at | Typical UAE use |
|---|---|---|
| Diploma (diploma) and supplement | University, then court | Work permit, see degree certificate attestation |
| Birth extract (izvadak iz matice rođenih) | Registry office, then court | Child's residence visa |
| Marriage extract | Registry office, then court | Spouse visa, see marriage certificate attestation |
| Power of attorney | Croatian notary, then court | Property, banking, company matters |
Language, letters and names
Croatian documents use letters such as č, ć, š, ž and đ. UAE systems often drop the marks, so "Đurić" may appear as "Duric" or "Djuric". Keep the passport spelling as the reference and send it with the document. MOFA accepts Arabic or English, or a legally certified translation, and we arrange legal translation in Dubai where that is the better option.
If you also studied, married or had a child in Slovenia, the steps for those papers are on Slovenia certificate attestation.
Doing this from the UAE
You do not have to travel. MOFA allows anyone to submit an application for you, and the original can travel to Croatia by courier. The UAE portal steps are done online. For other countries on the same kind of route, see attestation by country.
