Fees and steps checked on
Egyptian birth certificate attestation is what Egyptian parents in the UAE need before sponsoring a child who was born in Egypt, and what many schools in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi ask for at admission. The chain is short: a computerised copy from the Civil Status Department, legalisation by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the UAE Embassy in Cairo and MOFA attestation.
We are a private document service, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. We arrange the steps for you, with free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai.
Price: There is no fixed price for Egypt. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Start with the right copy
In Egypt, birth records are kept by the Civil Status Department of the Ministry of Interior. A computerised copy shows the child's national identification number. That is the version to attest. Many families in the UAE still hold the first handwritten certificate from the hospital district, or a copy that is years old and worn. The foreign ministry legalises the signature of the civil status officer, so a fresh computerised copy avoids problems later.
The Egyptian civil registry can also issue a bilingual digital copy, Arabic with English or another language. It is useful when a school wants to read the certificate without a translation.
Documents you need
- A recent computerised birth certificate from the Egyptian Civil Status Department, one per child.
- The father's or mother's passport copy, and the child's passport copy.
- The parents' attested marriage certificate, if you are applying for the child's visa at the same time. See Egyptian marriage certificate attestation.
- No lamination on the certificate.
Step by step for each child
- Order the computerised copy. A relative in Egypt orders it from a civil status office. If that is not possible, we confirm another way from your copy.
- Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry legalises the civil status signature, in Cairo or at a governorate office.
- UAE Embassy in Cairo and MOFA. The application goes on the UAE MOFA website, an approved courier collects the original, and the UAE Embassy in Cairo lists this as a digital attestation with MOFA. The attested copy is emailed and the original returns.
- Delivery in Dubai. The certificate is ready for GDRFA, ICP or the school.
Where the attested birth certificate is used
| Use in the UAE | What usually asks for it |
|---|---|
| Child residence visa | GDRFA in Dubai, ICP in the other emirates |
| Emirates ID | Follows the residence visa file |
| School admission | Many private schools, especially for a first enrolment |
| Passport or name matters | Some government and court files |
For the full spouse and children file, see family visa services in Dubai and attestation for school admission.
Late registration and corrections
If a birth was registered late in Egypt, the computerised record may show a registration date long after the birth date. That is normal and still attests. What causes trouble is a mismatch: a different spelling of the child's name, or a father's name in a different order from his passport. Corrections are made at the Egyptian civil status side, not by MOFA. We check the copy against the passports before anything goes to Cairo.
Common problems with Egyptian birth certificates
- Old handwritten certificate. It may be refused or questioned. Order the computerised copy first.
- Hospital notice instead of a certificate. A birth notice from a clinic is not the civil status record.
- Children's names in a different order. Egyptian names carry the father's and grandfather's names, and visa systems sometimes cut them. Keep each child's passport copy in the file.
The whole family at once
Parents usually need the marriage certificate and every child's birth certificate attested together. One batch to Cairo keeps the visa file moving as a unit. If you also need your own degree for a work permit, see Egyptian degree attestation. The general rules are on birth certificate attestation, and every Egyptian document is on Egypt certificate attestation.
