Indian documents and the Indian missions in the UAE

Indian Embassy attestation in Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Indian Embassy attestation means two different things. Indian documents for use in the UAE go through India first. Documents signed or issued in the UAE for use in India go to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate in Dubai.

People search for "Indian Embassy attestation in Dubai" or "Indian Embassy attestation in Abu Dhabi" for two very different jobs. The first is making an Indian degree, birth or marriage certificate valid in the UAE. The second is making a document signed or issued in the UAE valid in India. The direction decides the route, so start there.

Price: Indian documents are quoted per document because state rules differ. Send a photo on WhatsApp and get one total price, all official fees included, before any work starts. Free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai. See attestation fees.

Direction 1: Indian documents for use in the UAE

An Indian certificate used for a UAE work permit, family visa, school admission or licence goes through the Indian chain first:

  1. State authentication. The state HRD or education department for degrees and school certificates. The state Home Department for birth and marriage certificates.
  2. MEA attestation. The Ministry of External Affairs in India attests the state stamp.
  3. UAE Embassy in India and MOFA. The UAE Embassy in New Delhi attests the document, and MOFA attestation is added for use in the UAE. On the current digital route both are done together.

The state and MEA steps always happen in India. You cannot skip them from Dubai. The full chain is on Indian certificate attestation and HRD and MEA attestation.

Where the Indian Embassy fits in this direction

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai can attest some Indian certificates, such as academic, birth and marriage certificates. They do this only when the state and MEA stamps are already on them. Whether that attestation is accepted in place of the UAE Embassy step in India can depend on who receives the document. We check what your employer, school or authority asks for before choosing the route.

Direction 2: UAE documents for use in India

The Indian missions in the UAE also attest some documents issued or signed here for use in India. Common examples:

  • Power of attorney for property, bank or court matters in India. You sign it in person before the consular officer. See Indian Embassy POA attestation.
  • Affidavits and declarations for use in India.
  • Some UAE-issued documents needed by an office in India.

The exact list and conditions depend on the document and its purpose. Some UAE documents need UAE steps, such as a notary or MOFA, before the Indian mission will attest them. We tell you the order before anything is submitted.

How the Indian missions take applications

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai run their attestation services through outsourced Indian Consular Application Centres across the emirates. Appointments are booked online. The centre takes the application and passes it to the mission. For documents like a power of attorney, you attend in person with your original passport.

The centre charges its own service fee on top of the government fee. Every official fee is included in the one total price we give you before any work starts.

Which route do you need?

Your document Where it will be used Route
Indian degree, school certificate UAE State HRD, MEA, UAE Embassy New Delhi and MOFA
Indian birth or marriage certificate UAE State Home Department, MEA, UAE Embassy New Delhi and MOFA
Power of attorney signed in the UAE India Indian Embassy or Consulate in the UAE
Power of attorney signed in India UAE Notary in India, MEA, UAE Embassy and MOFA

Common mistakes

  • Booking the Indian Consulate for an unattested Indian degree. The state and MEA steps come first, in India.
  • An MEA apostille for the UAE. The UAE is not in the Apostille Convention. It needs MEA attestation and the UAE Embassy step.
  • Signing a POA at home. The consular officer must see you sign it.
  • Name differences between the certificate and the passport. Fix them before you start.

Questions people ask

Can the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi attest my Indian degree for the UAE?

Only after the state and MEA stamps are already on it. The state HRD or Home Department step and the MEA step always happen in India. For use in the UAE, the usual route then goes to the UAE Embassy in New Delhi and MOFA.

Which documents does the Indian Consulate in Dubai attest?

Mainly documents signed or issued in the UAE for use in India, such as a power of attorney or an affidavit, and some Indian certificates that already carry the state and MEA stamps. The exact list depends on the document and its purpose, so we check before you book.

Where do I apply for Indian Embassy attestation in the UAE?

Through the outsourced Indian Consular Application Centres across the emirates, with an appointment booked online. The service is no longer taken at the embassy or consulate counters.

How much is Indian Embassy attestation?

Send a photo on WhatsApp and get one total price, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Is Indian Embassy attestation the same as MEA attestation?

No. We are a private document service in Dubai. We prepare your documents, arrange the right attestation chain and handle pickup and delivery.
