Fees and steps checked on
Ireland marriage certificate attestation makes an Irish marriage certificate valid in the UAE, most often so one spouse can sponsor the other for a family residence visa. The chain is: Irish Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) stamp, then the UAE embassy step for Irish documents, then MOFA attestation in the UAE. Neither of you has to fly to Dublin.
Price: Ireland has no fixed price on our list. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Why couples in the UAE attest an Irish marriage certificate
The main reason is the spouse visa. When a resident in Dubai sponsors a husband or wife, GDRFA asks for a certified marriage contract, and ICP, which covers Abu Dhabi and the other emirates, asks for an attested one. An Irish certificate becomes acceptable to them only once it has gone through the Irish and UAE stamps. Our guide to documents to attest for a UAE family visa lists everything else the visa file needs.
Proof of marriage is also asked for when you add a spouse to company medical cover or to some tenancy and banking paperwork.
How the Irish chain works
- Start with an official certificate. The DFA stamps a marriage certificate issued by the Irish civil registration service. If you only hold a photocopy, order a fresh certificate first.
- DFA authentication. The Department of Foreign Affairs authenticates it, one stamp per document.
- The UAE embassy step. The certificate then goes to the UAE mission that handles Irish documents. Routing for Irish papers has changed over time, so we confirm the current mission and its timing before you pay anything.
- MOFA. The certificate receives MOFA attestation as a personal document. If the mission issues digital attestation, the embassy and MOFA stamps arrive together.
- Arabic, if asked. A court or office that wants Arabic gets a legal translation in Dubai after attestation.

You pay us one figure, and it already contains every official fee plus the courier both ways.
The spouse visa afterwards
The attestation is only the first step. The Dubai GDRFA family residence visa has its own fees, with an extra in-country fee if your spouse is already in the UAE. ICP's sponsor income rule is usually AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with accommodation provided.
What to send us
- A clear photo of the Irish marriage certificate (the original follows by courier)
- Both passports, copy only
- The date your visa application is due
Mistakes that cost Irish couples time
- Thinking the apostille is enough. It is a common stop point. The UAE still needs the embassy and MOFA steps because it is outside the Apostille Convention. See attestation vs apostille.
- Damaged or laminated certificates. MOFA refuses laminated documents, so order a clean one.
- Name differences. A surname on the passport that differs from the certificate raises questions at the visa desk. Keep any deed poll or linking documents ready.
Other refusal reasons are listed in why attestation gets rejected.
The rest of the family file
If you are also sponsoring children, their certificates take the same route: see Ireland birth certificate attestation. For a work visa degree, see Ireland degree attestation. The full country overview is on Ireland certificate attestation.
