Fees and steps checked on
Kenyan birth certificate attestation is what a parent in the UAE needs to sponsor a child born in Kenya, enrol them in school and register them for an Emirates ID. The certificate is issued by Civil Registration Services, authenticated by the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attested by the UAE Embassy in Nairobi, and finished with MOFA attestation.
We are a private document service in Dubai, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. We collect and return your documents free anywhere in Dubai.
Price: there is no fixed price for Kenya. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.
The Kenyan birth certificate today
In Kenya the birth certificate has become the base document for almost everything, from school to ID. Civil Registration Services, under the Ministry of Interior, issues it, and applications now begin on eCitizen. Some families hold older certificates issued years ago at a district registry. Others hold a newer one applied for online. Both can be valid, but the UAE chain only works on a genuine registry certificate, so we look at yours before anything moves.
The foreign ministry side has gone online too. Since the turn of 2024, Kenyan embassies tell applicants to apply for authentication at mfa.ecitizen.go.ke.
Which documents you need
- The original Kenyan birth certificate for each child.
- A copy of the child's passport.
- Copies of both parents' passports or Kenyan IDs.
- An eCitizen account for the foreign ministry step. We can guide you through it.
- For a child visa, the parents' attested marriage certificate as well.
Step list for a Kenyan birth certificate
- Check the certificate. We compare it with the child's passport: names, date of birth and the parents' details.
- Civil Registration confirmation. The issuing registry confirms the certificate, as the foreign ministry asks issuing authorities to certify documents before it authenticates them.
- Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Authentication, applied for on mfa.ecitizen.go.ke.
- UAE Embassy in Nairobi. Attestation of the Kenyan ministry stamp, filed through the MOFA portal.
- MOFA. The final stamp, after which the certificate goes into the visa or school file.
Where it is used in the UAE
Child residence visa. A resident sponsoring a child needs the child's attested birth certificate. We can prepare the whole application: see family visa services in Dubai.
School admission. Schools often ask for an attested birth certificate for children joining from abroad. See attestation for school admission.
Your own birth certificate. Adults are sometimes asked for theirs in UAE personal status matters. The chain is the same.
Common problems with Kenyan birth certificates
- Father's details missing. If the father's name was not entered at registration, a father sponsoring the child in the UAE may face questions. The certificate may need to be amended in Kenya first. Send a photo and we tell you before you file.
- Late registration. A birth registered long after it happened is still a valid certificate, but the date of registration is printed on it and some offices look closely at it. Keep any supporting papers.
- Spelling of the child's name. A name spelled one way on the certificate and another way on the passport is a common reason for a visa file to stop. Fix it in Kenya first, not after attestation.
One file for the whole family
Parents who sponsor children usually need the marriage certificate attested as well. That goes through the same Kenyan chain: see Kenya certificate attestation. If a parent needs a degree for work, see Kenyan degree attestation. For birth certificates from other countries, see birth certificate attestation.
