Fees and steps checked on
Mongolia certificate attestation lets a Mongolian diploma, birth certificate or marriage certificate be used for a visa, job or school in the UAE. Mongolia is a modern apostille country with digital e-Apostilles, which is exactly why people get caught out: the UAE is outside the Apostille Convention. For Dubai or Abu Dhabi the document needs consular legalisation by the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a UAE embassy stamp, and then MOFA attestation.
Price: send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
eMongolia apostille versus what the UAE needs
Since 4 September 2025 the Consular Department of the Mongolian foreign ministry has issued e-Apostilles through the eMongolia system for records such as birth and marital status references. These are verified online and work well in Convention countries. They do not work in the UAE, and an electronic document cannot carry a paper embassy stamp. Ask the ministry for consular legalisation of a paper original. Our attestation vs apostille page explains why the two are not interchangeable.
The route for Mongolian documents
- Issuing authority. University, school, civil registration office or notary, depending on the document.
- Translation. Mongolian Cyrillic text translated into English or Arabic and certified.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Consular Department. Consular legalisation, not an apostille.
- UAE embassy step. MOFA's current list of UAE missions has no entry for Mongolia, although an embassy opened in Ulaanbaatar in 2016. We confirm the live submission point for your file before sending.
- MOFA in the UAE. The final attestation.
Mongolian documents we handle
| Document | Typical UAE use | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's or master's diploma | Work permit, degree certificate attestation | Diploma and transcript match your passport name |
| Birth certificate | Child residence visa | Paper original, not an eMongolia printout |
| Marriage certificate | Spouse visa, marriage certificate attestation | Both spouses' names as in passports |
| Police record reference | Some employers and licences | Issue date, in case the UAE office asks for a recent one |
| Power of attorney | Property or company matters | Signed before a Mongolian notary |
Names: family name, given name, Cyrillic
Mongolian documents often place the father's name before your given name, and passports may print them in a different order or spelling. On UAE forms that can look like two different people. We keep a passport copy with the file and ask the translator to follow it letter for letter. When a UAE court or authority needs Arabic, a licensed translator in Dubai prepares it from the attested original; see legal translation in Dubai.
Other things that slow Mongolian files
- Sending the apostilled version. It has to go back to the ministry for consular legalisation.
- Laminated diplomas. MOFA refuses laminated originals.
- Unclear embassy step. This is the one point we always confirm before the document leaves Mongolia, so it does not travel twice.
Families in the UAE often hold papers from more than one country. If some of yours come from China, use the route on China certificate attestation for those.
While you stay in the UAE
Most of the work happens in Ulaanbaatar, and you do not need to be there. A family member or courier moves the original, and it returns to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah after the UAE stages.
