New Zealand birth certificate attestation is what a parent needs before a New Zealand-born child can be sponsored for UAE residence or, at some schools, enrolled. Each certificate is authenticated in New Zealand (Category A), legalised by the UAE Embassy in Wellington and completed with MOFA attestation. Two children means two full sets of stamps.

Who asks for an attested New Zealand birth certificate
- GDRFA and ICP, for a child's residence visa. See documents to attest for a UAE family visa.
- Schools, sometimes, at admission in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or the northern emirates. See attestation for school admission.
- Adults, occasionally, for their own personal status paperwork in the UAE.
The route, certificate by certificate
- Registered certificate only. Hospital records and printouts are not part of the chain. We look at your photo and confirm.
- Notary where required. We confirm from the photo.
- Authentication in New Zealand. Category A is the UAE category: an authentication certificate, not an apostille. Standard time is within 15 working days after verification.
- UAE Embassy in Wellington. Legalisation of each certificate.
- MOFA. Final UAE attestation. Where the digital route is offered, the Wellington and MOFA stamps arrive together.
- Home delivery of the attested originals in the UAE.
Born in the UAE instead?
A child born in Dubai or Abu Dhabi has a UAE-issued birth certificate. It does not go to New Zealand or to Wellington. See birth certificate attestation for the UAE route.
Send the family file in one batch
Sponsoring children usually also means sponsoring a spouse, which needs an attested New Zealand marriage certificate. Sending every certificate together means one courier run to New Zealand and one batch through authentication and the embassy.
What slows New Zealand birth certificates down
- The apostille. Easy to order by mistake online, and not valid for the UAE.
- Lamination. MOFA refuses laminated originals.
- A name that differs from the passport. Sort it out before the chain starts.
- Leaving it until the visa deadline. Fifteen working days in New Zealand, plus courier and the UAE steps, is longer than most parents expect. Start as soon as the move is confirmed.
