Bolivian documents for the UAE

Bolivia certificate attestation for the UAE

Bolivia joined the Apostille Convention, but the UAE never did. Your Bolivian título or SERECI certificate goes through Cancillería in Bolivia, then to the UAE Embassy in Lima, Peru, which serves Bolivia, and then to MOFA.

Bolivia certificate attestation is what turns a Bolivian university title, bachillerato, SERECI birth or marriage certificate, or poder notarial into a document a UAE employer, school or visa office will accept. Bolivia brought the Hague Apostille Convention into its own law in 2017 and 2018. The UAE has not joined that convention, which is why a Bolivian file has three stops: Cancillería in Bolivia, the UAE embassy in Lima, then MOFA attestation in the UAE.

Price: There is no fixed price for Bolivia. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. Our attestation fees page explains what a total covers.

A word about us: we are a private document service with an office in Bur Dubai, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. Document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai is free.

Three things that make Bolivia different

The embassy is in another country. No UAE embassy in La Paz could be confirmed. The UAE Embassy in Lima states that its services extend to residents of Bolivia and Ecuador. So after the Bolivian stamp, your original crosses into Peru for the UAE step. We confirm how Lima is currently taking Bolivian papers from your copy.

Cancillería works with the issuing body. Under Bolivia's apostille system, the stamp ties the signature of the entity that issued the document to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the issuing university or office has not been verified first, the ministry stops the file. Whether Cancillería should issue its legalisation or its apostille for a UAE file is something we settle before anything is filed.

Degrees come in two papers. Bolivian graduates often have a diploma académico and a separate título en provisión nacional. Attesting the wrong one wastes weeks.

Your Bolivian documents, one by one

  • University title or diploma. Verified by the university that issued it, with any education ministry step that applies, then Cancillería. Used for a work permit through degree certificate attestation.
  • Título de bachiller. Secondary school proof, sometimes asked for by UAE schools or for teaching jobs.
  • SERECI birth certificate. Needed for a child's UAE residence visa. See birth certificate attestation.
  • SERECI marriage certificate. Needed to sponsor a husband or wife. See marriage certificate attestation.
  • Poder notarial. Signed before a Bolivian notary first. If it concerns a company, the UAE treats it as commercial.
  • Company papers. Registry extracts and statutes, attested in the commercial category at the UAE end.

Translation: plan it before Cancillería

Bolivian documents are in Spanish, and MOFA reads only Arabic or English. The Lima embassy's own rules for Peruvian papers put the English translation before the foreign ministry, with the ministry stamping both versions. If the same applies to your Bolivian file, a translation made in Dubai at the end would be too late. We decide this at the start, from your copy.

La Paz, Santa Cruz or Cochabamba

The route does not change with the city where you or the document are. What changes is logistics. A SERECI certificate can be reissued in the department that holds the record, the ministry step happens in Bolivia, and the original then travels on to Lima. If a parent or friend in Santa Cruz or Cochabamba can collect fresh certificates, that often saves the most time.

How the timeline usually looks

  1. Copy reviewed on WhatsApp, route and total price confirmed.
  2. Fresh certificates and translation arranged in Bolivia.
  3. Cancillería stamp.
  4. Courier to Lima and the UAE embassy step.
  5. Return to Dubai and MOFA, unless the embassy issues a digital attestation that already includes it. MOFA courier attestation inside the UAE usually takes 1 to 3 business days.

Every Bolivian, Peruvian and UAE official fee sits inside the one total we quote.

Mistakes we see on Bolivian files

  • An apostille treated as the finish line, then refused in Dubai.
  • A diploma académico attested when the employer wanted the título en provisión nacional.
  • Paternal and maternal surnames in a different order on the passport and the certificate.
  • Laminated originals, which MOFA does not attest.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Where is the UAE embassy for Bolivia?

In Lima, Peru. We could not confirm a UAE embassy in La Paz. The Lima embassy says it serves residents of Bolivia too, and MOFA calls the ambassador there the non-resident ambassador to Bolivia.

My Bolivian degree already has an apostille. Is that enough?

No. The UAE is outside the Hague Apostille Convention, so a Bolivian apostille only covers the Bolivian side. The UAE embassy step and MOFA still have to follow.

How much does Bolivia certificate attestation cost?

There is no fixed price for Bolivia. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Which Bolivian degree paper should I attest?

Many graduates hold both a diploma académico and a título en provisión nacional. Your employer or the UAE authority decides which one it wants, and we check this with you from copies of both.

Where do Bolivian birth and marriage certificates come from?

From SERECI, the civil registry service. A recently issued certificate is the safest starting point for attestation.

Will a Spanish document be accepted by MOFA?

Not as it is. MOFA takes Arabic or English, so a certified translation is needed. We tell you whether it must be done in Bolivia or can be done in Dubai.

I live in Santa Cruz, not La Paz. Does that change anything?

Not the route. The original still needs the Bolivian foreign ministry step and then travels to Lima. It only changes how the courier is planned.
