Fees and steps checked on
Eritrea certificate attestation makes an Eritrean birth certificate, marriage certificate, school record or degree usable in the UAE. The Eritrean side is clear: the document is legalised by the Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Asmara. The UAE side is less clear, because no UAE embassy in Asmara or published UAE mission for Eritrea could be found, so we confirm the current UAE step from a copy before the paper leaves your hands. The chain ends with MOFA attestation.
Price: send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Why Eritrea needs a check before you start
For most countries the UAE embassy sits in the capital and the route is fixed. For Eritrea we have not found a UAE mission that publishes attestation for Eritrean papers. Rather than guess, we look at your document, check the current position with the UAE side, and only then tell you the route and the price. If a step is not available, you hear that before paying, not after a courier bill.
The parts of the route that are known
- Original from the issuing office. Civil status office, school, university or court in Eritrea.
- Translation. Tigrinya or Arabic papers are translated into English or Arabic by a sworn translator. Official Dutch government guidance describes the translation being legalised together with the original when done in Eritrea.
- Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry legalises the document, and the translation if one was made there.
- UAE mission step. Confirmed per file, as explained above.
- MOFA in the UAE. MOFA attests personal and commercial documents, and its fee is included in our quote.
Language: Tigrinya, Arabic and English
Eritrean papers come in Tigrinya, Arabic or English. MOFA reads Arabic and English, so those may need no translation for the MOFA stamp. Tigrinya needs a certified translation. Some UAE employers and courts want an Arabic version regardless, which we provide through legal translation in Dubai.
Documents and what they are used for
| Eritrean document | Common UAE use |
|---|---|
| Birth certificate | Child visa, school place, birth certificate attestation |
| Marriage certificate | Spouse visa and family sponsorship |
| Secondary school certificate | School transfer, university entry |
| University degree | Work permit, degree certificate attestation, equivalency |
From the UAE side
Most of the work can be organised from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. The Asmara step needs the original in Eritrea, so a trusted relative or courier is needed there. Once the UAE stamps are in place, MOFA lets anyone file on your behalf.
A spouse or child with certificates from Ethiopia needs that country's own chain: see Ethiopia certificate attestation.
Common problems
- Different spellings. Tigrinya names are transliterated in more than one way. The translation should follow your passport exactly.
- Missing pages. If the certificate refers to an annex, include it; ministries legalise complete documents.
- Laminated papers. MOFA will not attest them.
- Old school records. A school that has merged or closed may need a replacement certificate from the education authority. Ask for it before the ministry step, not after.
More countries are on attestation by country.
