Nepali birth registrations for UAE visas

Nepal birth certificate attestation for the UAE

A Nepali birth registration from the ward office needs verification by the local level, an English version, the Department of Consular Services in Kathmandu and the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu, which adds MOFA in the same digital step.

Nepal birth certificate attestation is what Nepali parents in the UAE need to sponsor a child born in Nepal, or to enrol that child in a UAE school. The birth registration comes from the ward office of the local level. It must be verified by the local level administration, issued or translated in English, attested by the Department of Consular Services in Kathmandu, and finally attested by the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu. The embassy step is digital and carries MOFA attestation with it.

Price: There is no fixed price for Nepal. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.

We are a private document service, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. Free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai is part of the service.

Which documents you need

  • The original birth registration certificate from the ward office.
  • An English version signed and sealed by the issuing authority, or a translation sealed by that authority.
  • The child's passport copy and the sponsoring parent's passport copy.
  • The parents' citizenship certificate copies, if the local level asks for them when it verifies the record.

Step by step for a Nepali birth certificate

  1. Check the record. Send a photo. We look at the dates, the spelling and who signed it.
  2. Local level verification. The chief administrative officer of the municipality or rural municipality, or the head of its registration section, verifies the certificate. A ward chair's signature alone is not what the Department of Consular Services looks for.
  3. English version. The local level issues the certificate in English or seals an English translation. The Gregorian date of birth must appear next to the Bikram Sambat date.
  4. Department of Consular Services. The foreign ministry in Kathmandu attests it. NEATS, launched on 17 August 2026, takes the application and appointment online.
  5. UAE Embassy in Kathmandu with MOFA. The application is filed on the MOFA website. The embassy asks for birth certificates in original form. The attested certificate is emailed to you and the original comes back by courier.

What the attested certificate is used for

Child residence visa. A child born in Nepal is sponsored with an attested birth certificate, next to the parents' attested marriage registration. See family visa services in Dubai.

School admission. Schools across the UAE ask for the birth certificate when a child joins, and many want it attested. See attestation for school admission.

Doing the whole family together

A family visa file usually needs the marriage registration as well as each child's birth registration. Both come from the local level and both need its verification first, so a relative can collect and verify them in one visit before the Kathmandu appointment.

Common problems with Nepali birth registrations

  • Late registration. Many births in Nepal are registered months or years later, sometimes just before a passport application. The date of registration can be far from the date of birth, which is normal, but the date of birth itself must match the passport exactly.
  • Calendar conversion errors. A Bikram Sambat date converted by hand is a common source of a one day or one month mismatch. We check the conversion before filing.
  • Nepali only certificate. A certificate with no English version cannot go straight to the UAE side. If the UAE office also wants Arabic, we add a legal translation in Dubai at the end.
  • Wrong signature. A certificate verified only by the ward chair may be returned. The local level administration must verify it first.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Who issues a birth certificate in Nepal?

Births are registered at the ward office of the local level, the municipality or rural municipality, under Nepal's civil registration law. The certificate is usually in Nepali.

Is the ward chair's signature enough for the foreign ministry?

Not on its own. A circular from the Department of Consular Services, reported in December 2020, says documents issued by a local level must be verified by its chief administrative officer or the head of its registration section before consular attestation.

Do I need an English birth certificate?

Yes, or an English translation. Nepal's missions ask for an English document signed by the Nepali authority, or, if it is in Nepali, an English translation sealed and signed by that authority, then attested by the Department of Consular Services.

My child's date of birth looks wrong on the UAE form. Why?

Nepali records use the Bikram Sambat calendar, which runs about 56 to 57 years ahead of the Gregorian one. The English version must give the Gregorian date that matches the passport.

Do I need one attestation for each child?

Yes. Each birth certificate is a separate document with its own steps in Kathmandu and at the UAE Embassy.

My child was born in the UAE. Does this apply?

No. A UAE birth certificate is a UAE document. It only needs MOFA attestation in the UAE and never goes to Kathmandu.
