Fees and steps checked on
South Africa marriage certificate attestation is the step that lets a South African spouse be sponsored for UAE residence. The certificate from the Department of Home Affairs is legalised by DIRCO in Pretoria, which charges nothing, then attested by the UAE Embassy in Pretoria, and finally receives MOFA attestation in the UAE. You do not need to fly to South Africa for any of it.
Price: South Africa is quoted per document. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
What our price covers
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) legalises South African documents, and it has publicly warned about people falsely claiming to act in its name. The chain also needs a notary where one is needed, the UAE Embassy in Pretoria, MOFA, and courier between the UAE and South Africa. Our single price covers all of that plus the handling. We are a private service, not DIRCO and not a government office.
Who needs it
Residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates sponsoring a husband or wife. GDRFA asks for a certified marriage contract and ICP for an attested one. The other papers for that file are in documents to attest for a UAE family visa. Family medical insurance and some housing applications also ask for proof of marriage.
The South African chain in order
- Home Affairs certificate. Start from an official marriage certificate issued by the Department of Home Affairs. We check your photo for the version.
- Notary, where the route needs it. We confirm on the photo.
- DIRCO legalisation in Pretoria. No government charge.
- UAE Embassy, Pretoria. Attestation of the legalised certificate.
- MOFA, UAE. Final attestation. If the digital route is available, the Pretoria and MOFA stamps come back to you together.
- Visa file. GDRFA or ICP receives the attested certificate.

South African marriage files: what goes wrong
- Trusting a stranger who claims to be DIRCO. DIRCO warns about these offers.
- Starting with the wrong certificate version. A refusal at DIRCO or the embassy costs weeks. Check first.
- Relying on an apostille. South Africa issues apostilles, but the UAE needs embassy legalisation and MOFA.
The general list of refusal reasons is in why attestation gets rejected. If a UAE court later wants Arabic, book a legal translation in Dubai.
