South Sudanese documents for the UAE

South Sudan certificate attestation for the UAE

South Sudanese documents are legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Juba, then by the UAE mission, then by MOFA. Most are in English, so translation is often not needed for the MOFA stamp.

South Sudan certificate attestation lets a South Sudanese degree, school certificate, birth certificate or marriage certificate be used for a UAE visa, job or school place. South Sudan does not issue apostilles. The document is legalised by the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Juba, attested by the UAE mission responsible for South Sudan, and finished with MOFA attestation in the UAE.

Which country issued your paper?

South Sudan became independent in 2011. People born or educated before then often hold certificates issued by Sudanese authorities, while newer papers come from South Sudanese ones. Attestation always follows the issuing state, not your current passport. A Khartoum-issued degree follows the Sudan certificate attestation route; a Juba-issued one follows this page. Sending us a copy settles it in minutes.

The UAE side for South Sudan

The UAE's representation has changed over time. In 2017 the UAE Ambassador to Ethiopia was accredited to South Sudan as a non-resident ambassador. In February 2022 a UAE ambassador presented his credentials to President Salva Kiir in Juba. MOFA does not publish a South Sudan attestation page, so which mission applies the stamp today, Juba or the Ethiopia side, is confirmed per file before your original travels.

Step by step

  1. Original from the issuing office. University, ministry of education, civil registry or court in South Sudan.
  2. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Juba. Legalises the signature on the paper. Official Dutch government guidance names this ministry as the legalising office.
  3. UAE mission. Attests the ministry stamp, paid through the MOFA system.
  4. MOFA in the UAE. The final stamp, with its fee included in our quote.

English helps

Most South Sudanese public documents are in English, which MOFA accepts directly. That usually saves a translation fee and a few days. If the paper is going to a UAE court, or an employer asks for Arabic, we add a legal translation by a translator licensed in the UAE.

What South Sudanese documents are used for

Document Typical UAE purpose
Bachelor's or diploma certificate Work permit and employment visa attestation
Secondary school certificate University admission, school transfer
Birth certificate Child residence visa
Marriage certificate Spouse visa, family sponsorship

Degree holders should also read degree certificate attestation, as some employers ask for transcripts and an equivalency letter as well.

Doing it from the UAE

The ministry step needs the original in Juba, so a relative or courier is needed there. The UAE stage can be handled without you. MOFA allows anyone to submit an application on someone else's behalf.

Problems to avoid

  • Attesting a Sudanese-issued paper through South Sudan, or the reverse.
  • Sending a photocopy of a civil record instead of the original.
  • Laminating the certificate. MOFA will not stamp laminated papers.

Questions people ask

Which UAE mission attests South Sudanese documents?

A UAE ambassador presented credentials in Juba in February 2022, and before that South Sudan was covered from the UAE Embassy in Ethiopia. MOFA does not publish a South Sudan attestation page, so we confirm the current office when you send a copy.

How much does South Sudan certificate attestation cost?

Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Do English documents from South Sudan need translation?

Not for MOFA, which accepts English. A UAE court or some employers may still ask for an Arabic legal translation.

Can I get an apostille in Juba?

No. South Sudan is not on the Hague Apostille table and neither is the UAE, so the document is legalised instead.

My certificate was issued in Sudan before 2011. Is it a South Sudan document?

No. The route follows the country that issued the paper. A certificate issued by Sudanese authorities follows the Sudan route, even if you are now South Sudanese.

Can I arrange this from Dubai?

Yes. The original goes to Juba with a courier or relative for the ministry step, and MOFA allows anyone to apply on your behalf.
