Sudanese birth certificates for UAE families

Sudanese birth certificate attestation for the UAE

A Sudanese birth certificate comes from the civil registry under the Ministry of Interior, then needs the Sudanese foreign ministry and a UAE attestation. Many families arrived without the original, so we start by checking what you have.

Sudanese birth certificate attestation is what parents in the UAE need before sponsoring a child born in Sudan for residence, and what many schools ask for at admission. The certificate is issued by the Sudanese civil registry, authenticated by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attested on the UAE side, and finished with MOFA attestation here.

We are a private document service in Dubai, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. Free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai is included.

Price: there is no fixed price for Sudan. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Where the birth certificate comes from

Official birth certificates in Sudan are issued by the civil registry, which is part of the Ministry of Interior. The Dutch government's legalisation guide calls it the Directorate of Civil Rolls. That is the office whose copy the foreign ministry authenticates. A hospital birth notice, a school record or a family book entry is not a substitute.

Sudan has a centralised electronic civil register, introduced in 2011, tied to each person's national number. Newer certificates are printed from that system. Older handwritten certificates do exist, and families sometimes hold only those. If yours is old or worn, send a photo first.

Which documents you need

  • The original Sudanese birth certificate from the civil registry, one for each child.
  • A copy of the child's passport.
  • Copies of both parents' passports, so the names can be matched.
  • The parents' marriage certificate, which the UAE visa file usually needs too.

Step list for a Sudanese birth certificate

  1. Civil registry copy. Confirm the certificate is the official registry document. If it is missing, a relative or lawyer in Sudan may request a new copy from the registry, where the office is working.
  2. Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Authentication of the registry signature. The Dutch guide names the ministry in Port Sudan, and adds that the Sudanese embassy in Cairo can also legalise birth certificates.
  3. UAE step. A UAE attestation of the Sudanese stamp, through whichever route is accepting Sudanese documents when you apply. Since Sudan announced the end of relations with the UAE in May 2025, we check this for each file.
  4. MOFA in the UAE. The final stamp, after which the certificate goes into the visa or school file.

What the UAE uses it for

Child residence visa. A resident sponsoring a child is asked for the child's attested birth certificate. See family visa services in Dubai.

School admission. Many schools ask for an attested birth certificate when a child joins from abroad. See attestation for school admission.

Emirates ID and later renewals. Once the attested certificate is on the child's file, renewals rarely ask for it again, so keep the attested original safe.

Common problems with Sudanese birth certificates

  • No original, only a phone photo. Very common for families who left during the war. A photo lets us check the route, but the chain needs a registry original or a new official copy.
  • Name order or spelling. The child's four-part name on the certificate may be shortened on the passport. We flag mismatches before anything is filed, because the visa office compares them.
  • Child born in Egypt or another country after leaving Sudan. Then the birth certificate is from that country and follows its own chain. For Egypt, see Egypt certificate attestation.

Planning the whole family file

A spouse visa needs the attested marriage certificate, and a child visa needs each birth certificate. If a parent also needs a degree attested for work, see Sudanese degree attestation. For birth certificates from other countries, see birth certificate attestation. If the school wants English, we add a legal translation.

Questions people ask

Who issues birth certificates in Sudan?

Official copies come from the civil registry, which sits under the Sudanese Ministry of Interior. The Dutch government's legalisation guide names it as the Directorate of Civil Rolls. Hospital notices are not the same document.

Can the Sudanese embassy in Cairo authenticate a birth certificate?

The Dutch government's legalisation guide for Sudan says birth certificates can also be legalised by the Sudanese embassy in Cairo, as well as by the foreign ministry in Port Sudan. We confirm which option is working when you send a copy.

My child was born in Dubai. Does this page apply?

No. A child born in the UAE has a UAE birth certificate, which follows the UAE route, not the Sudanese one. This page is for children born in Sudan.

Does the birth certificate need the national number?

Sudan's civil registry links people to a national number. Embassy pages show that the child's Sudanese birth certificate is part of the file when a national number is requested. If your child's certificate has no number, send a photo and we check whether that matters for the UAE office.

Do I need a translation for my child's school in Dubai?

MOFA accepts Arabic. International schools sometimes want English, and then a legal translation of the attested certificate is added.

How much does Sudanese birth certificate attestation cost?

There is no fixed price for Sudan. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

One photo per child is enough to start. We check the registry copy, the foreign ministry option that is working and the UAE step, then quote one total for the family.
