Fees and steps checked on
Syrian birth certificate attestation is what Syrian parents in the UAE need when a child born in Syria is added to a residence visa, registered at a school, or named in a court or passport file. The document is a birth extract from the Syrian civil registry. It is attested by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, then by the UAE Embassy in Damascus, then by MOFA in the UAE.
We are a private document service, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. We confirm the current Syrian route on each file, with free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai.
Price: There is no fixed price for Syria. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Extract, family book or hospital paper?
Syrian families often hold three different papers for one child, and only one of them is attested.
- Birth extract. Issued by the civil registry from the family's record in their home governorate. This is the document for the UAE.
- Family book. The booklet listing parents and children. It is useful as background, but it is not an extract, and Dutch government guidance says it is not enough proof of a birth on its own.
- Hospital or midwife paper. The notice used to register the birth. It is not a civil registry document.
The current situation in Syria
Syria's civil registry has been through changes since December 2024. A July 2025 report from the EU Agency for Asylum said civil registry offices had suspended the registration of new civil events, including births, since 8 December 2024. Extracts of births already registered are a different matter. Because the picture can differ by governorate and changes over time, we check what your governorate is issuing when you send a copy, before you pay anything.
Documents you need
- A recent birth extract for each child from the Syrian civil registry.
- The child's passport copy and both parents' passport copies.
- The parents' attested marriage document for the visa file. See Syrian marriage certificate attestation.
- A clean original. The Syrian foreign ministry refuses damaged, scratched or altered documents.
Step by step for each child
- Order the extract. A relative or lawyer in Syria requests it from the civil registry in the family's governorate.
- Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. The ministry attests it, using its digital sticker in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Daraa, with appointments booked electronically.
- UAE Embassy in Damascus. The embassy attests the Syrian ministry stamp. How it is receiving documents at the moment is confirmed on each file.
- MOFA in the UAE. The final stamp. The certificate is then ready for GDRFA, ICP or the school.
Where the attested extract is used
| Use | Who asks |
|---|---|
| Child residence visa and Emirates ID | GDRFA in Dubai, ICP in the other emirates |
| School registration | Many private schools, often for a first enrolment |
| Passport renewal or name matters | Syrian or UAE offices handling the file |
The family visa checklist is on family visa services in Dubai, and school requests on attestation for school admission.
Common problems with Syrian birth certificates
- Sending the family book. It is the most common mix-up. Order a separate birth extract per child.
- Old or worn extracts. An extract printed years ago and folded in a wallet may be refused. A new one costs less time than a rejection.
- Births never registered in Syria. Children born in Syria during the war years were sometimes not registered. There is no extract to attest, and the Syrian foreign ministry describes a separate procedure for unregistered people. We tell you honestly what can be done.
The whole family together
Parents usually attest the marriage document and every child's extract in one batch to Damascus. Your degree can join the same round, see Syrian degree attestation. General rules are on birth certificate attestation, and every Syrian document is on Syria certificate attestation.
