Fees and steps checked on
Azerbaijan certificate attestation for the UAE is one of the more modern routes. The UAE Embassy in Baku offers MOFA's digital attestation for documents issued in Azerbaijan, so once Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has legalised your diploma, birth certificate, marriage certificate or power of attorney, the embassy stamp and MOFA attestation arrive together by email. MOFA says most of these requests are completed in 2 to 3 business days.
Price: send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.
Original or translation: two Azerbaijani starting points
The Azerbaijani foreign ministry treats them differently:
- Original document. Taken straight to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for consular legalisation.
- Copy or translation. A notary first certifies the copy and the translator's signature. The Ministry of Justice then confirms the notary's signature and seal. Only after that does the MFA legalise it.
Because MOFA in the UAE needs Arabic, English or a certified translation, most Azerbaijani-language certificates take the second path. The chain VFS Global publishes for Azerbaijan reflects this: sworn translation, notary, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE Embassy, MOFA.
The Baku digital route
- Azerbaijani steps. Notary and Ministry of Justice where needed, then MFA consular legalisation.
- MOFA application. Filed on the MOFA website with UAE PASS, choosing Azerbaijan as the issuing country, and paid online.
- Collection of the original. A MOFA-approved provider arranges pickup of the original document in Baku.
- Digital attestation. The UAE Embassy in Baku and MOFA attest it. You receive the attested document by email.
- Original returned. By courier. The attestation can be checked through MOFA attestation verification with the reference number and date.
No separate MOFA stage is needed in the UAE after this.
Documents and the right path
| Document | Path in Azerbaijan | UAE result |
|---|---|---|
| Diploma with Azerbaijani text | Translation, notary, Ministry of Justice, MFA | Baku digital attestation with MOFA |
| Birth or marriage certificate | Translation, notary, Ministry of Justice, MFA | Baku digital attestation with MOFA |
| Power of attorney in English | Notary, Ministry of Justice, MFA | Baku digital attestation with MOFA |
| Company documents | Notary, Ministry of Justice, MFA | Baku digital, as a commercial document |
| Commercial invoice, certificate of origin | Not on this route | MOFA eDAS system |
Official fees
The Azerbaijani MFA offers an apostille, but the UAE needs consular legalisation instead. Every official fee and the courier are included in the total price you get before any work starts.
Points to watch with Azerbaijani files
- Apostille by mistake. The same ministry issues both apostilles and consular legalisation. Ask for legalisation for the UAE, or the embassy step will not follow.
- Name transliteration. Azerbaijani letters such as ə, ş and ğ are spelled in different ways. Match the translation to your passport.
- Commercial paperwork. For trade documents, see commercial document attestation; invoices are not on the embassy route.
Families in the UAE often hold papers from more than one country. If some of yours come from Georgia, use the route on Georgia certificate attestation for those.
While you are in the UAE
You do not need to go to Baku. A relative, a courier or the approved provider handles the original, and you receive the digital result in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. For degrees used in a work permit, see degree certificate attestation; for Arabic versions for a UAE court, legal translation in Dubai.
