Bangladeshi birth certificates for UAE visas

Bangladesh birth certificate attestation for the UAE

A Bangladeshi birth certificate should come from the online birth registration system with its 17 digit number, in English. It is then attested by the foreign ministry in Dhaka, a UAE embassy step and MOFA.

Bangladesh birth certificate attestation is what Bangladeshi parents in the UAE need to sponsor a child born in Bangladesh, or to enrol that child in school. The birth certificate comes from Bangladesh's online Birth and Death Registration system and should be in English. It is attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, then by a UAE embassy step, and finished with MOFA attestation.

Price: There is no fixed price for Bangladesh. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.

Which documents you need

  • The birth certificate in English with its 17 digit birth registration number.
  • The child's passport copy, with the same spelling as the certificate.
  • The sponsoring parent's passport copy.
  • The parents' NID or online birth registration details, if the English version still has to be applied for.

Why the online record comes first

Bangladesh moved birth registration onto an online system. A certificate whose 17 digit number shows a record on the registration website can be checked by anyone along the chain. A certificate that does not appear online, or an older handwritten one, is much more likely to be questioned. Fixing that before attestation is quicker than having the file returned later.

Step by step for each certificate

  1. Check the record. Send a photo. We look up whether the number shows an online record and whether an English version exists.
  2. Digitise or get the English version. If needed, a relative applies on the registration website. Uploads are small scans, and the parents' records must usually be online too.
  3. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. The foreign ministry attests the certificate. Bangladesh's online attestation on MyGov, launched in October 2024, uses an NID or online birth registration for the profile, and we confirm whether your file can go that way.
  4. UAE embassy step. On the digital route through the MOFA portal, the UAE Embassy in Dhaka and MOFA attest together. VFS also lists a counter attestation route for some files. We confirm which applies from your copy.
  5. Delivery. The attested certificate is ready for the visa, Emirates ID or school file.

What the attested certificate is used for

Child residence visa. A child born in Bangladesh is sponsored with an attested birth certificate, next to the parents' attested Nikah Nama. See family visa services in Dubai.

School admission. Many UAE schools ask for the attested birth certificate on admission. See attestation for school admission.

Doing the family file at once

Fathers sponsoring a wife and children usually need the Nikah Nama and every child's birth certificate in the same round. Getting all the English birth records ready first, then sending the whole set through Dhaka together, keeps the visa file moving as one.

Common problems with Bangladeshi birth certificates

  • No online record. The certificate exists on paper but the number shows nothing online. The registration must be digitised first.
  • Spelling differences. The English version spells a name one way and the passport another, for example "Md." against "Mohammad". The two must match before attestation, or the visa office may query it.
  • Late registration. Many births were registered years later, often when a passport was applied for. That is normal, but the date of birth must match the passport exactly.

Questions people ask

Does my child's birth certificate need to be the online version?

It is the safest start. Online certificates carry a 17 digit birth registration number that can be checked on the Birth and Death Registration website. If no record appears for that number, the birth was not digitised and that has to be fixed first.

How do I get the English version of a Bangladeshi birth certificate?

The English version is applied for online on the birth registration website. The application usually asks for scans of supporting papers, and for a child, the parents' own online birth registrations or NIDs.

Is a handwritten birth certificate accepted?

Old handwritten certificates are often questioned because they cannot be checked online. We usually advise getting the digitised English version before attestation.

Is the Bangladesh e-Apostille enough for a UAE child visa?

No. The UAE is not a member of the Apostille Convention. The certificate still needs the UAE embassy step and MOFA attestation after the foreign ministry in Dhaka.

My child was born in Dubai. Does this page apply?

No. A Dubai birth certificate is a UAE document and only needs MOFA attestation here. Registering the birth with Bangladesh is a separate service of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Dubai.

Do I need one attestation for each child?

Yes. Every birth certificate is its own document with its own stamps.
