Lithuanian documents for the UAE

Lithuania certificate attestation for the UAE

Vilnius legalises, Riga attests. A Lithuanian paper goes to the Lithuanian foreign ministry first and then to the UAE mission in neighbouring Latvia, whose digital stamp counts for MOFA too.

Fees and steps checked on

Lithuanian diplomas, civil registry certificates and notarial papers come up often in Dubai files, usually for a work permit, a family sponsorship or a company setup. What surprises people is the geography. Lithuania's own foreign ministry signs off in Vilnius, but the UAE stamp is added across the border by the UAE Embassy in Riga. That Riga stamp is digital and is issued together with MOFA attestation, so the paper is ready on arrival in the Emirates.

Price: There is no fixed price for Lithuania. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. How we build a quote is explained under attestation fees.

Who we are: a private firm in Bur Dubai, with no link to MOFA, any embassy or any government department. Our couriers pick up and drop off documents free of charge across Dubai.

Two capitals, one file

Stage City Who What they check
1 Anywhere in Lithuania Notary (only for private papers such as a power of attorney) Your identity and signature
2 Vilnius Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania The official's signature and seal
3 Riga UAE Embassy The Lithuanian ministry's legalisation

Stage 3 also produces the UAE ministry's certification, which is why no fourth stage is needed back home.

What Vilnius looks at

The ministry legalises each sheet on its own, so two certificates mean two requests. It needs to know the destination, and the answer must be the UAE, not "abroad". An apostille issued earlier for, say, Germany does not stand in for this. Civil status records (birth, marriage, death) should be the originals. A diploma or company extract may be an original or a true copy, as long as the ministry legalises it.

What Riga asks for

Riga runs on appointments. The flow is:

  • an online request on the MOFA site, logged in with UAE PASS, with Lithuania chosen as issuing country and the UAE charges paid there
  • an email to the embassy to book a slot
  • the original handed over at that slot and given back before you leave
  • the digital certificate sent by email afterwards, checkable on MOFA attestation verification

Riga turns away plastic coated papers and stapled sets. Trade invoices and certificates of origin never go there at all; they belong to MOFA's eDAS platform. A memorandum is handled apart from the articles, and a power of attorney that gives business powers is priced as commercial.

Soviet era certificates

Lithuania restored its independence on 11 March 1990. Anything issued before that date with Lithuanian SSR insignia is refused for legalisation, according to Lithuanian guidance. The fix is simple but takes time: request a new extract from the civil registry, then legalise the new one. Check your parents' or your own older papers early if they are part of a family visa.

Surnames that change form

Lithuanian surnames follow gender and marital status. A father may be Kazlauskas, his wife Kazlauskienė and their unmarried daughter Kazlauskaitė. Add the dots and hooks on ė, š and ž, which UAE systems tend to drop, and a mismatch with the passport is easy. Give us passport copies for every person named so the English or Arabic version follows the passport spelling. Where a UAE court needs Arabic, our partners in legal translation in Dubai can add it last.

Typical Lithuanian requests

Latvian papers go to the same embassy but start at Latvia's own ministry; see Latvia certificate attestation. Polish papers have a separate chain, set out in Poland certificate attestation.

Staying in the Emirates while it happens

Nobody has to fly. Anyone may lodge the MOFA request for you from Dubai. The original needs a person in Vilnius and Riga, either someone we arrange or a family member. When the finished certificate comes back, we bring it to your home or office.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Why does a Lithuanian document go to Latvia?

Because the UAE Embassy in Riga is the mission that covers Lithuania. Its own MOFA page names Lithuania next to Latvia in its list of countries served.

My papers already carry a Lithuanian apostille. Is that enough?

Sadly not. The apostille works between Hague Convention states, and the UAE never joined. Riga wants the legalisation stamp of the Lithuanian foreign ministry instead.

How much does Lithuania certificate attestation cost?

There is no fixed price for Lithuania. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts.

Will Dubai MOFA have to stamp it again?

Usually no. The Riga result is issued jointly in the name of the embassy and the UAE ministry, and its reference number can be looked up online.

My birth certificate is from Soviet times. What now?

Lithuanian guidance says papers issued before 11 March 1990 bearing Lithuanian SSR symbols cannot be legalised. Order a fresh certificate from the civil registry and we start from that.

Who actually stamps the document?

The Lithuanian ministry and the UAE embassy. We are a private company in Dubai that prepares and moves the file for you, not a government body.
