Turkish marriage records for UAE spouse visas

Turkey marriage certificate attestation for the UAE

Only a civil marriage registered in Türkiye produces a record the UAE chain can use. The Formül B or marriage extract goes through sworn translation and notary, the Turkish foreign ministry, a UAE mission in Türkiye and MOFA.

Fees and steps checked on

Turkey marriage certificate attestation is the step a resident in the UAE needs before sponsoring a husband or wife married in Türkiye. In Türkiye a marriage is official only when it is performed by a municipal marriage office or, since 2017, a mufti office, and registered in the civil records. The record from that registration, usually the Formül B multilingual extract, is translated and notarised, certified by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attested by a UAE mission in Türkiye and completed with MOFA attestation in the UAE.

Price: There is no fixed price for Turkey. Send a copy on WhatsApp and you get the total price plus VAT, all official fees included, before any work starts. See attestation fees.

We are a private document service, not MOFA, an embassy or a government office. Free document pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai is included.

Which documents you need

  • A Formül B multilingual marriage extract or a marriage record extract from the civil registry.
  • Passport copies of both spouses.
  • A notarised power of attorney if a relative collects the record in Türkiye.
  • The family booklet (evlenme cüzdanı), only as a reference copy.

Civil, religious and mufti marriages

Türkiye recognises only civil marriage. A couple who had only an imam nikahı has no marriage in the civil records, so there is nothing for the foreign ministry or the UAE mission to attest. Couples in that position register a civil marriage first. A marriage performed at a mufti office since the 2017 change in the law is entered in the civil records like a municipal one, and its record follows the same chain.

Step by step for a Turkish marriage record

  1. Get the right record. A relative orders the Formül B or a marriage extract from the civil registry office.
  2. Sworn translation and notary. A yeminli tercüman translates the record and a Turkish noter certifies it, as VFS lists for Türkiye.
  3. Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry certifies the signature and seal before it.
  4. UAE Embassy in Ankara or UAE Consulate General in Istanbul. The UAE mission attests the ministry stamp. Which mission takes your file is confirmed from your copy.
  5. MOFA in the UAE. The final stamp, filed online once the record is back.

Using the certificate for a spouse visa

The attested marriage certificate is the core of a spouse residence file in Dubai, next to the sponsor's salary or tenancy papers. If children were born in Türkiye, their birth records go through the same chain at the same time. See family visa services in Dubai and Turkey birth certificate attestation.

Doing it from the UAE

Neither spouse needs to travel. A relative with a notarised power of attorney can order the record from the civil registry, and the original goes through the translator, notary, ministry and UAE mission by courier. The MOFA stamp is filed online once it is back in Dubai.

Common problems with Turkish marriage records

  • Religious marriage only. An imam nikahı without civil registration cannot be attested. Register the civil marriage first.
  • Surname change. A Turkish wife usually takes her husband's surname, sometimes keeping her own before it. If her passport still shows the maiden name, the translation must make the link clear.
  • Booklet instead of extract. The family booklet is not a convenient document for the chain. We start from the Formül B unless the UAE office names something else.
  • Arabic for court use. A UAE court or personal status matter may ask for Arabic. We add a legal translation in Dubai at the end.

For every Turkish document, see Turkey certificate attestation. For marriage certificates from all countries, see marriage certificate attestation.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Can I attest an imam nikahı for a UAE spouse visa?

No. In Türkiye a religious ceremony alone is not a registered marriage, so there is no civil record to attest. The civil marriage must be registered first.

Which Turkish marriage document should I attest?

Usually the Formül B, the multilingual marriage extract from the civil registry. The family booklet (evlenme cüzdanı) is a booklet handed to the couple, and a booklet is harder to take through the chain, so we normally start from the Formül B or a marriage record extract.

We married at the mufti office. Is that a civil marriage?

Since 2017 mufti offices in Türkiye can perform official marriages that are registered in the civil records, the same as a municipal marriage office. That record can be attested.

Do I need a sworn translation?

The UAE chain for Türkiye lists translation and notary as the first step. A yeminli tercüman translates the record and a noter certifies it. The Formül B is multilingual, so we confirm from your copy what is needed.

We married in Türkiye but one of us is not Turkish. Does this route apply?

Yes. A marriage registered in Türkiye follows the Turkish chain whatever the nationality of the spouses.

Do I need MOFA in the UAE after the UAE mission in Türkiye?

Yes. We found no MOFA digital route for Türkiye, so MOFA attests the certificate as a final step once it is back in the UAE.
